SMART FACTORY
TRACEABILITY AND LOCALIZATION
ON THE MOVE
In Lamplast, among the European leading thermoplastic and rubber compounders, smart factory is a reality. Production traceability is achieved thanks to forklifts moving within an organized warehouse made more efficient through an integrated RFID system. This also allows for precise and timely localization of products and raw materials in stock, which results in a drastic reduction of the risk of human error and inefficiencies.
Specifically, product tracking within the warehouse is transmitted in real time to devices installed on forklifts. Operators then receive instructions on the tasks to be performed (e.g., unloading/transferring a truckload of raw materials or loading finished products for shipment to the customer). At the same time, the RFID-equipped forklift informs the ERP system, and therefore the office, of the exact location of the products in the warehouse. This ensures rapid product retrieval, as well as automatic and efficient organization of warehouse spaces.

WHY RFID?
RFID technology allows for the “seamless” and automatic reading of the tags used here to identify the finished product as it exits the production line, to track raw materials (using reusable tags to reduce costs), and the location of items in warehouses.
This type of production is characterized by speed. Indeed, the goods produced have extremely short lead time in stock. Production optimization requires knowing the exact location of the raw materials, delivered in near-continuous flows, and their movement to efficiently feed the production lines.
The automatic reading inherent to RFID technology is the timely answer to all these needs.
